CHRC Organizes 13th National Human Rights Conference at Kohi, Mayurbhanj
Kohi, Mayurbhanj – The Citizens’ Human Rights Clinic (CHRC), a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights in India, successfully hosted its 13th National Conference on March 9, 2025, in the quaint village of Kohi under the Moroda Assembly Constituency in Mayurbhanj district.
“Stand Up for Human Rights” Theme Resonates with Delegates and Locals
The conference, themed “Stand up for Human Rights,” drew attendees from across the country, including intellectuals, dignitaries, and local villagers from Kohi and neighboring areas. The event was marked by significant participation and engagement from all stakeholders.
Distinguished Dignitaries Grace the Occasion
The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Goutam Kumar Kissan, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mayurbhanj. Other notable dignitaries included Professor Niranjan Barik, former Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at Ravenshaw University as the Chief Guest; Prof. Banshidhar Mallick of NIFFT, Ranchi; Dr. Pradipta Kishore Panda, former Principal of Baripada College; Dr. Shyama Dash, former Principal of Shrima College; Mr. Nitish Nivedan Barik, Team Lead at Accenture, Bengaluru; and Mr. Basanta Kumar Das, former Senior Bank Manager and President of the Retired Bank Officers’ Association as Guests of Honour.
Keynote Addresses and Panel Discussions Highlight Critical Human Rights Issues
In his inaugural address, Mr. Goutam Kumar Kissan emphasized the crucial role of police in maintaining law and order and urged human rights activists to support police duties and crime control. Professor Niranjan Barik delivered a keynote speech that stressed vigilance against human rights violations and highlighted citizens’ responsibilities toward environmental preservation and women’s rights.
Other distinguished speakers such as Dr. Shyama Dash, Prof. Banshidhar Mallick, Rashmi Roul, Advocate Pratap Keshari Das, and others shared their insights on various dimensions of human rights issues. These interactions fostered meaningful dialogue and deeper understanding among the audience.
Awards and Honors for Eminent Individuals
As part of the proceedings, CHRC honored five eminent individuals for their contributions in fields such as art, literature, social service, and journalism. The awardees included Rama Chandra Mohanta – Eminent Writer; Dr. Anjali Tipiria – Educationist and Culture Promoter; Sarat Chandra Behera – Dedicated Journalist; Chaturbhuja Patabandha – Social Activist; and Samarjit Tipiria – Renowned Chhau Nritya Artist. They were honored with citations and uttariya.
Resolution Adopted for Submission to National Leaders
The conference concluded with the adoption of a resolution under the chairmanship of Dr. Gopabandhu Mallick, Head of CHRC, Odisha. The resolution will be submitted to the Hon’ble President of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, and the state Chief Minister for further consideration.
Special Acknowledgment for Logistical Support
Special acknowledgment was given to Shri Paresh Nath Patra, CHRC Head of Mayurbhanj district, and his wife Anjali Tipiria for their exemplary efforts in providing logistical support, accommodation, and facilities for the delegates and invitees.
Cultural Performances Enthrall the Audience
The event featured an enthralling performance of Chhau Dance by the talented artists of Shri Shri Jagateswar Chhaunrutya Parishad. The troupe also staged a thought-provoking song-drama titled ‘Patent Medicine,’ centered on the theme of Prohibition. The performance resonated deeply with the audience and was led by renowned Chhau Nritya artists including Samarajit Tipiria, Chandan Kumar Mahanna, Shrikanta Bhoi, Shanti Pragati, Sonakhi, Astami Bhoi , and Anita under the expert guidance of Gandhi Jayanta Tipiria.

The memorable occasion came to a fitting close with Dr. Anjali Tipiria delivering a heartfelt vote of thanks. Other dignitaries present included Prof. Jayakrishna Mohanta, Secretary General of CHRC; Poet and writer Sukumar Das; and Dr. Kunjabana Prusty.
