Cuttack, Odisha – In a heartwarming initiative, Apana Ghar Ashram, an hermitage dedicated to providing shelter and care to mentally retarded and helpless individuals, has been making significant strides since its inception in 2021. Located in the village of Satabatia along the Canal Road from Cuttack, this sanctuary is home to 77 mentally retarded persons who are provided with comprehensive medical and boarding facilities.
Founding and Leadership
Apana Ghar Ashram was established by Dr. Brajmohan Bhardwaj of Bharatpur, Rajasthan. The headquarters of the organization are based in Bharatpur, while the Odisha unit is under the care of Shri Shukadeb Agarwal. Here, the inmates are affectionately addressed as “Prabhuji.”
Services and Impact
The hermitage offers essential medical care and boarding facilities to mentally retarded male and female individuals from financially backward classes. The primary goal is to provide a nurturing environment where these individuals can receive treatment and eventually return to their homes once they are cured. To expand its capacity and accommodate more helpless people, the first floor of the house is currently under construction.
Recent Meeting and Appreciation
A recent meeting held at the premises of Apana Ghar Ashram was presided over by Shree Shukdeb Agarwal, President of the organization. The event was attended by distinguished guests including Shree Barada Das, Retired Additional Director of the Public Relations Department, Government of Odisha and current President of the Thinkers’ Club; Advocate and Literati Rajiv Sadangi; Writer Muralidhar Satapathi; Paramananda Muduli; Brajabandhu Prusthy; and several other social workers.
The guests expressed their deep appreciation for the organization’s efforts and praised its activities. They also extended their best wishes for the continued prosperity of Apana Ghar Ashram.
Ms Kalyani Mishra, Councilor, was also present at the meeting. She participated in cultural activities along with the inmates which included dance and song programs that were both enjoyable and memorable.
This event highlighted not only the dedication of Apana Ghar Ashram but also underscored the importance of community support in such noble endeavour’s.
