Inclusive and Sustainable Mobility App Aims to Empower Drivers, Enhance Customer Experience
Bhubaneswar, Odisha – The Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department of Odisha has initiated preparations for the launch of “Odisha Yatri,” a groundbreaking mobility app designed to transform urban transportation in the state. This initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision of “VIKSIT Odisha,” which focuses on empowering drivers and improving customer experiences across Odisha.
Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations
To bring this vision to life, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), and Moving Tech, the parent company of Namma Yatri. The ONDC, a project of the Government of India, aims to democratize digital commerce by creating an open, interoperable network for transactions in products and services.
Key Features of Odisha Yatri App
The Odisha Yatri app is designed to provide drivers with a platform that ensures they retain their profits while offering users a smooth, practical, and reasonably priced travel experience. Here are some key features:
Zero-Commission Model: The app will operate on a zero-commission basis, eliminating middlemen and ensuring direct payments to drivers, thereby boosting their income and transparency.
Diverse Transportation Options: The app will include various modes of transportation such as sedans, XL taxis, and minicabs with and without air conditioning. It will also expand to include intercity trips, rentals, and scheduled services.
Inclusive Services: To ensure inclusivity, the platform will accommodate special needs such as additional baggage, pet-friendly travel, and cars accessible to people with disabilities.
Safety Measures: The app will collaborate with local law enforcement and transportation agencies to implement top-notch safety measures for all users.
Overwhelming Support from Driving Community
More than 4,000 drivers have already enrolled in support of the initiative. Principal Secretary Usha Padhee presided over a preliminary meeting where officials outlined the strategic plan for implementing the app. Founded on principles of openness and community-driven innovation, Odisha Yatri aims to advance sustainable urban transportation and enhance last-mile connectivity.
Boosting Tourism and Economic Growth
The app is also expected to boost tourism by offering tickets for popular locations like the state museum and providing transportation options for dignitaries visiting Odisha for events such as the January “Prabasi Bharatiya Diwas.”
High-Level Meeting and Representation
Senior representatives from the departments of housing and urban development, commerce, and transportation attended the meeting along with Transport Commissioner Amitav Thakur. Under the VIKSIT Odisha strategy, Odisha Yatri represents a significant milestone in Odisha’s journey towards becoming a leader in digital innovation, sustainable development, and inclusive urban mobility.
