CRUT Renamed to Comprehensive Region Urban Transport

Bhubaneswar, Nov 26:
In a landmark transformation, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has been rebranded as Comprehensive Region Urban Transport, reflecting its expanded mandate to serve people across Odisha with modern, safe, and reliable mobility solutions. The decision was approved during the 51st Board of Directors Meeting held under the chairpersonship of Smt. Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Odisha.

The Board conducted an extensive review of CRUT’s operations and outlined a forward-looking roadmap focusing on technology-driven mobility, commuter safety, and workforce welfare.

Crew Welfare Takes Centre Stage

One of the most significant decisions was the directive for all bus operators to onboard their crew members under the Odisha Motor Transport Drivers and Workers’ Welfare Board, under the Transport Department. This move ensures drivers and conductors receive financial support, insurance coverage, social security, and other welfare benefits—strengthening dignity and protection for frontline mobility workers.

Modern Terminals at Trisulia & Khordha

Plans for state-of-the-art bus terminals at Trisulia and Khordha—developed through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model—were reviewed. These upcoming facilities will feature advanced electric charging stations, supporting the growing fleet of electric buses and reducing dead kilometers, thus improving efficiency and promoting green mobility.

Digital Ticketing Gains Momentum

CRUT reported that digital ticketing adoption has risen to 38%, indicating a major shift from manual to digital transactions. This transition enhances payment safety, reduces cash handling issues, and improves the overall commuter experience.

ADAS & DFMS for Safer Roads

In a major push for safety, CRUT is rolling out Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Fatigue Monitoring Systems (DFMS) across its fleet. All 200 buses recently approved by the state cabinet are already equipped with ADAS.

To ensure proper certification and compliance, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune is being empanelled—taking CRUT closer to building one of the safest public transport fleets in India.

Launch of ‘Pathachitra’ Newsletter

A new milestone was marked with the release of ‘Pathachitra’, CRUT’s first quarterly newsletter, unveiled by Chairperson Smt. Anu Garg. The publication highlights achievements, ongoing projects, and technological upgrades made in the last quarter. A digital version is now available on CRUT’s official website.

A New Era of Mobility for Odisha

With its rebranding and strategic upgrades, Comprehensive Region Urban Transport is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of public transportation across Odisha—promoting sustainability, safety, digital innovation, and commuter-centric services.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to building a smart, inclusive, and technology-driven urban transport ecosystem that caters to the needs of citizens across the state.
